Gran Canaria Cycling Photoshoot

opublikowany: 2026-09-22

Ride Gran Canaria. Come home with the story.

Gran Canaria is a pretty damn good place to ride a bike. It is an even better place to shoot.
Mountain roads, endless switchbacks, volcanic landscapes, small villages, Atlantic coastline and light that changes completely within a few kilometres make the island a natural playground for cycling photography.
If you are coming to Gran Canaria for a cycling holiday, training camp or simply a few days of riding and would like to come home with something better than another phone photo of your bike leaning against a road sign – let’s ride n' shoot.
I am a professional photographer and filmmaker, but first of all, I am also a cyclist. I know the roads, hidden gems and the light. That makes a cycling photoshoot in Gran Canaria slightly different from a regular sports session.
You ride. I ride...and I know what to look for.

Cycling photographer in Gran Canaria

Cycling photography is not just about finding a beautiful background and pressing the shutter when someone rides past. For me a lot of details matter. The position on the bike. The corner. The road surface, direction of the light, gradient, speed and even which side of the road You ride on.
And sometimes the photograph works because of a tiny detail: hands on the drops, dust behind a gravel bike, a shadow stretching across the road or a rider disappearing into another ridiculous Gran Canaria switchback.
Being a cyclist myself means we can work around an actual ride instead of turning everything into a static photoshoot.
We can ride a route together, stop at selected locations or build the entire ride specifically around shots.

Gran Canaria manages to squeeze an absurd amount of visual variety into a relatively small island.
Within one ride you can move from dry southern landscapes around Maspalomas and Ayagaures into mountain roads, pine forests and high viewpoints around Tejeda, Artenara or Pico de las Nieves. The island gives us several completely different visual directions without needing to organise several separate routes.
And, of course, we could shoot some on 20% climb and make it look steep.
It is, but pictures don't like to show that. I think You know the case.

Cycling photoshoot built around your ride

I do not particularly like taking a cyclist to one corner and asking them to ride through it twenty-seven times. Sometimes we will repeat a section because the light or composition is worth it. But whenever possible, I prefer to treat a cycling photoshoot as a small story.
We choose a route and ride.
I photograph the landscape, details, portraits and the actual movement along the way.
A session can be built around a short section of road specifically selected for photography or incorporated into a longer Gran Canaria cycling route.
If you already have a favourite climb or road on the island, perfect. If not, tell me where you are staying, what you ride and what kind of photographs you want. I can help choose a route and locations that fit the idea.

Road cycling photography in Gran Canaria

Road cycling is probably where Gran Canaria becomes most visually ridiculous. There are roads that seem almost designed for photographs. Layers of mountains in the background, exposed sections overlooking valleys, hairpins cut into rock and long climbs disappearing somewhere above you.
For a road cycling photoshoot we can concentrate on dynamic images rather than posed portraits.
Climbing out of the saddle. Descending. Cornering. Riding through a wide landscape. Close details of the rider and bike. And the quieter moments between them.
The result can be somewhere between sports photography, travel story and editorial cycling content rather than a collection of photographs from one viewpoint.

Gravel and MTB cycling photoshoots

Tarmac is only part of the island.
If your version of a good cycling holiday involves dust rather than perfect asphalt, we can build the session around a gravel or mountain bike photoshoot in Gran Canaria as well.
Off-road sessions give us another visual language. Rough surfaces, dust, volcanic terrain and much more.
There are plenty of good gravel roads.

Cycling photos for riders, teams and training camps

You do not need to be a professional cyclist to book a session.
Quite the opposite.
If cycling is the reason you came to Gran Canaria, having genuinely good pictures from the trip simply makes sense. I work with individual cyclists, couples and friends travelling with bikes, cycling clubs and training camps, amateur and competitive riders, coaches, cycling guides and rental companies, content creators and athletes building their personal image.
A shoot can focus entirely on one rider or follow a small group during part of a ride.
For groups and camps, we can also create a mixture of individual photographs, group images and documentary coverage of the ride.

More than a photographer with a rental car

One of the useful things about working with a photographer who actually rides is that you do not need to explain cycling from scratch. I know how to place a crankset and wheels, what's important and what to hide.
I understand the difference between a photograph that merely contains a bicycle and an image that looks neat.
I also spend a lot of time exploring the Canary Islands by bike myself. That means location scouting often happens naturally while riding. I am constantly collecting roads, corners, viewpoints and strange little places signed as I definitely need to shoot here. It is becoming a rather large folder.

Tenerife cycling photoshoot

Gran Canaria is not the only Canary Island where I work.
I also know Tenerife extensively from the saddle and regularly photograph and ride there.
Teide, Vilaflor, Masca, Anaga and the old TF-28 offer a completely different landscape and atmosphere, which makes Tenerife another excellent location for cycling photography. If your trip includes both islands, we can also discuss a larger Canary Islands cycling photography project covering Gran Canaria and Tenerife.
Because why not?

What kind of cycling photos can we create?

There is no fixed template.
Before the shoot, I want to know what you actually want. Maybe you simply want great images from a trip you have been planning for months. Maybe you race and need a stronger athlete portfolio. Maybe you create cycling content and need enough material for the next few weeks. From there we decide on the route, locations, light and style. One spectacular location or a complete story from several places.
Gran Canaria gives us enough scenery to play with all of them.
I've got a lot of gear and light so we could even shoot not only with natural light.

When is the best time for a cycling photoshoot in Gran Canaria?

For photography, morning and late-afternoon light usually gives us the most interesting possibilities, although the exact timing depends heavily on the route and altitude. Mountain light behaves differently from the coast, and one side of the island can look completely different from another. That is why I prefer to choose the exact place and time around the session rather than blindly putting “sunset” into the calendar.
Sometimes the best photograph happens long before it.

Book a cycling photoshoot in Gran Canaria

If you are planning a cycling trip to Gran Canaria and want to bring home more than kilometres, elevation and a suspiciously impressive collection of Strava screenshots, get in touch.
You do not need to have the route or concept figured out.
That part we can build together.
Whether you are looking for a Gran Canaria cycling photographer, a personal cycling photoshoot, content from a training camp or a full photo and video production for a cycling brand, I would love to hear what you are planning.
Let’s find a good road.
And make it look even better.
